Event Overview

Euromoney’s first dedicated Middle East Borrowers & Investors Forum will take place in Dubai on 29 January 2020.

Over the past few years, GCC nations have gone from occasional guests of capital markets to well-liked and frequent issuers. While the region’s fortunes still rise and fall with the oil price, the GCC has quickly earned a reputation for stability and consistency — making it a haven from the geopolitical concerns affecting other emerging markets mainstays like Turkey, Russia and the Ukraine.

The inclusion of GCC borrowers in the JP Morgan EMBI at the beginning of 2019 and the subsequent flood of passive money into the region marked the beginning of a new chapter in Middle East capital markets participation. The region’s relationship with investors is still evolving. New borrowers, from both the public and private sector, still arrive regularly, meaning investors must always be on their toes ready to analyse a new name. An ever broader range of investors, particularly from Asia, are pursuing the opportunities in the Middle East, meaning roadshows now look east as much as west.

Meanwhile, the role of the Middle East investor base in global financial markets is evolving, with its status growing both domestically and internationally. Investment choices are changing, partly due to the introduction of Basel III methodology in the GCC region and the growing interest in green/SRI markets.

Indeed, while still in its infancy, the GCC's green bond market is destined to have an exciting future. The region's vast investments in renewable energy capacity —growing by, according to S&P, an estimated compound annual growth rate of 179% between 2018-2020 to nearly 7GW — will spur green transactions.

Euromoney will gather some of the key Middle East issuers including sovereigns, government related entities, agencies, corporates, FIG and projects, to discuss the changing dynamics of the fixed income markets. We will combine Euromoney’s market leading track record in the MENA region and in Debt Capital Markets to create a landmark event bringing together participants in this fast-moving market.
